Report to: Peer Mentors will be a volunteer of Northwest London Resource Centre (NWLRC). The role of the mentor will be to support high risk youth in our newest program “Northwest Youth United”.  We are looking for youth between the ages of 18-24 to become Peer Mentors to support youth 11-16 years old.

Commitment: Approximately 3 hours per week (Tuesday & Thursday evenings- 1.5 hours each from 5-6:30PM)

Duties: As part of this program you would participate in fun, structured activities and workshops with your Mentee 2X per week (Tuesday & Thursday evenings). We are looking for individuals who can commit to this from mid-January until mid-April

-Between the ages of 18-24
-Be able to commit to 3-6 months – mid January-mid April
-Passionate and enthusiastic
-Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Reliable, accountable and flexible
-Have a genuine desire to help your mentee succeed

-Attend Psychological First Aid and Mental Health First Aid courses taught by the London Training Centre at no cost and receive certificates to add to your resume
-Support youth to work towards goals and successful futures
-Share skills and knowledge with youth
-Meet and connect with other supportive Peer Mentors

Additional Opportunity Information: 
NWLRC will be arranging for Peer Mentors to complete both Mental Health First Aid and Psychological First Aid courses to ensure you have the skills needed to support high risk youth. High risk youth may be more vulnerable to participating in dangerous activities and may have behavioural challenges. Completion of these courses means you will receive 2 professional certificates which can be added to your resume. These courses will be full day courses and the date will be provided once courses are confirmed. You will also attend a Volunteer Orientation to the program in order to learn about the role, ask questions and meet the other mentors. Peer mentors will need to submit a valid vulnerable sector police check and complete the required volunteer paperwork package prior to beginning their role
