About the SDGs
The UN Sustainable Development Goals is a framework established in 2015 and ratified by all the 193 member countries of the United Nations, including Canada.
The SDGs support cross-sectoral efforts towards healthy ecosystems, equitable societies and thriving economies for all.
This encapsulates the three SDG principles and it is core to our mission at Pillar Nonprofit Network.
Pillar and the SDGs
Since the SDGs were adopted in 2015, Pillar has been engaged in applying the framework to advance our mission to support the local networks in creating positive change in the community.
In early 2021, 10C Shared Space and the Pillar Nonprofit Network received funding from the Federal government’s SDG Funding Program to promote local action on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in mid-sized cities. From April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2024, 10C and Pillar collaborated, learning together with the community to develop new knowledge, approaches, and stories of SDG localization.
SDG Cities aimed to increase engagement and understanding of the SDGs in mid-sized cities through a collaborative approach. This involved raising the profile of the SDGs among local stakeholders and providing people with the tools, resources, and support networks to translate knowledge into action.
Over three years, SDG Cities created flexible opportunities for engagement, helping participants build their SDG literacy and capacity for local action. By fostering relationships, the project team worked closely with participants as they developed skills, overcame obstacles, formed new partnerships, and deepened their commitment to the SDGs.
Since then, Pillar and 10C continue to support their local communities by providing opportunities for SDG learning, integration and action.
