Cash Management:
• The volunteer is responsible for accurately processing all sales transactions involving cash, debit card or credit card (if applicable) including correctly classifying the sale in the correct category on the cash register
• Ensure the cash register is properly turned on at start of shift
• Counting of cash box float prior to the start of each shift to correspond with ledger
• All cash and transactions are counted at the end of the shift, the float is left in the till and the remainder is placed in a cash bag along with the daily tape showing all transactions then deposited in the safe
• Cash register is turned off at the end of the shift when the shift (daily tape) is run
• Cash deposits, depending on shift
Environment:
• Ensure all lights in shop are switched on and notify Volunteer Services of any burnt out bulbs
• Ensure all garbage is neatly packaged and left outside the gift shop at the end of the day (St. Joseph’s and Mount Hope only)
Displays/Stocking:
• Ensure shelves are restocked as necessary from supplies in storage area(s), this includes all products, milk, pop, candy, gifts etc as needed; Price, stock and place on shelves as needed. Rotate product appropriately.
• Monitor expiration dates
• Tidy and clean/dust shelves, as required
Sales:
• Be sensitive and aware of the customer’s needs; offer help but be aware that some customers are simply finding oasis from their stressful jobs, appointments or visit to the hospital, and may not wish to be over serviced
