About Daya Counselling Centre
Daya Counselling Centre is a non-profit charitable organization based in London, Ontario, dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellness of our community. Through our work, we aim to reduce the emotional, physical, and social costs associated with psychological distress. We offer high-quality counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals aged 16 and above, regardless of financial ability, and advocate for mental health care as a right in Ontario. Our mission includes:

  • Individual and couple therapy for those aged 16 and older.
  • Inclusive, accessible services that are financially accessible to everyone.
  • Advocacy for mental health care as a basic right in Ontario and Canada.
  • Collaborative efforts with other local service providers to maximize impact.
  • Community involvement on topics such as mental wellness, suicide prevention, and violence against women.

Board Member Responsibilities

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will provide strategic leadership and governance, working to ensure that Daya’s mission and vision are fulfilled. Board Members are also expected to serve on one standing committee. The Board is seeking volunteers with expertise or backgrounds in the following areas:

  • Finance
  • Law
  • Strategic thinking & governance
  • Social innovation
  • Equity, inclusion, & diversity
  • Social work & psychology

Experience and Assets

We especially welcome applications from individuals with lived experience that reflects the diverse communities we serve. Prior experience with Board Governance is beneficial but not required.


Commitment

  • Monthly Meetings: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., fourth Monday of each month (currently held virtually via Microsoft Teams)
  • Estimated Time Requirement: 5 hours per month, nine months of the year (January to June, September to November), including meetings, committees, and preparation time.
    • Additional contributions of time are always appreciated.
