ReForest London is Southwestern Ontario’s largest environmental charity dedicated to preserving and expanding the natural spaces that sustain our communities. We are a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing environmental and human health through the benefits of trees. The organization is marking our 20th anniversary with some big initiatives, and are seeking volunteers to help us continue to grow.
While ReForest London continues to develop the Westminster Ponds Centre, London’s leading sustainability hub, we are proud to be launching the Community Tree Nursery and Regional Seed Hub, a transformative initiative that will empower us to grow native plants from seed with the support of local communities.
We are looking for volunteer Board Members (Directors) who are action-oriented and interested in lending their time and expertise to ReForest London.
Successful candidates would use their knowledge and experience to participate as a member of the Board. Each Board member also sits on one of our four committees:
● Finance - Ensures the adequacy and effectiveness of financial reporting, internal controls, management information systems and risk management, budget oversight and audit obligations. (Meets 2nd Monday of the month)
● Marketing & Outreach - Supports and advances the marketing and outreach strategies of Reforest London through the development of promotional and fundraising campaigns, tactics, events and materials. (Meets 3rd Wednesday of the month)
● Governance - Ensures good governance and oversight of the operation of the Board of Directors as well as the recruitment and retention of Directors. (Meets 3rd Monday of the month)
● Westminster Ponds Centre - Provides overall oversight and recommends, monitors and supports actions associated with the WPC project. (Meets 2nd Thursday of the month)
ReForest London is looking for a diverse group of candidates, and we encourage all interested volunteers to apply. However, there are also particular areas of expertise we are seeking, which include the following:
- Law
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Volunteer Management
- Marketing
- Graphic Design
- Fundraising
- Accounting/Banking/Finance
- Insurance/Risk Management
- Engineering and Construction (particularly expertise in sustainable building)
- Building Preservation
The Board meets the 1st Tuesday of every month (save for the month of August). There are 4 in-person meetings each year, including the annual meeting of the members, with the remainder taking place remotely. Directors would also meet most months for a committee meeting. We strive to keep both board and committee meetings to 2 hours or less and seek an initial 3-year commitment for incoming board members.
