Organization/Business: BGC London
BGC London is a community organization that provides activities for children and youth whenever school is out, and during the day for older adults 55 and over. Our mission is to provide safe, supportive places where children, youth, and seniors can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.
What do you want people to know about how you or your organization is creating change in our community?
“Koats for Kids” is a community service of BGC London with area businesses and service clubs acting as partners in this very worthwhile undertaking – to ensure that children and youth are warm in the winter! Members of the Horton Street Seniors’ Centre, Club staff, students and community volunteers help distribute gently used coats and winter outer apparel to members and their families, and to the community until donations run out.
What are you working on that you would like to share with the community?
We're collecting donations of new and gently used winter outerwear (coats, snow pants, snow boots and winter accessories) until October 19th to distribute to families for free on Saturday, October 22nd. Our goal this year is to distribute over 600 coats. We also are supporting families and individuals by giving any extra items we have to local schools, and community organizations like LIFE*SPIN, and the Mission Services' Mission Store programs (Emergency Voucher Program and Warm Hands-Warm Hearts Outreach Program).
