Enabling Students to Engage with London Community Online: Registration Opens for CityStudio Year Two Projects

LONDON, ON – With London’s post-secondary institutions moving many courses online for the upcoming fall semester, and potentially the entire school year, COVID-19 is changing the student experience in unprecedented ways. CityStudio London enables students to remain engaged with the London community, even as many will be studying from their hometowns.

CityStudio London works with city staff and post-secondary school faculty to create and integrate city projects into the faculty’s course curriculum. Each project directly relates to a priority outlined in the City of London’s Strategic Plan. Led by their professors, students work together to research, design, evaluate and share ideas for city staff consideration. Over the summer, the CityStudio partner institutions have been hard at work adapting year two of our community engaged learning projects for the virtual world.

Students at our partner schools can now register for CityStudio courses that enable them to work together on prototyping solutions to London’s most pressing issues. This year, students participating in CityStudio London will be tasked with responding to issues like economic development, housing, equity, civic engagement, health, waste, water, climate change - and now COVID-19 recovery - as part of their coursework.

“True to CityStudio’s vision of students learning through making their world a better place, almost all of this year’s projects address the current reality of responding to COVID-19. While students may not be on campus for the full year, they will still be able to engage with the London community in very tangible and meaningful ways,” says Mischa Schlemmer, Manager of CityStudio London, Pillar Nonprofit Network.
