London Cares is a not-for-profit agency aimed at building relationships and supporting those who are experiencing homelessness, making it possible to help move some of the most vulnerable people in our community from street to home. Through a low-barrier, harm reduction compassionate approach we build relationships and are advocates for those we work with to build bridges and connections to the resources they need in support of their success and well-being.
London Cares programming continues to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the community we serve. With the redesign of the program, we are seeking to fill a 6-month contract Overnight Phone Triage and Program Support position. This is a full-time position, generally working a minimum of 35 hours per week working 11 pm – 7 am, 5 days a week. This position and may be required to adjust their schedule to support other teams.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role you will be a member of our Outreach team, reporting to the Outreach Coordinator, the responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:
Manage and triage incoming calls to provide a compassionate and supportive response to support individuals sleeping rough and urban camping.
Stay up to date with community resources to better triage participants
Help callers with system navigation
Work closely with LPS, EMS, and Hospital to support system navigation
Support callers with diversion through the phone
Data entry
Back up for other London Cares service teams
You will be a strong candidate for this position should you possess the following:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in the field of social work, human services, addictions, or mental health; or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness and marginalized populations.
- Training in non-violent crisis intervention and ASIST considered an asset.
- Satisfactory vulnerable sector police record check.
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR is a requirement of this position.
- A valid drivers license
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated ability to apply a person-centered, strengths-based approach when working in the community with marginalized individuals who are experiencing homelessness with complex needs of untreated mental health, addictions and trauma, crisis.
- Knowledge of community resources in the City of London and system navigation will be an asset to this role.
- A willingness to uphold a low-barrier approach and understanding of harm reduction, as well as housing first principles.
