In the social impact sector, “nothing for us without us” should be an assumption we all uphold. We know we can’t do the work of solving systemic challenges and working towards a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable future without the input of the populations we hope to serve. If we are all unified in this better hope for the future, then we need to ask ourselves how well we are serving, and how well our actions are being shaped by, the stewards of that future state - youth.
Meaningful youth engagement recognizes and seeks to change the power structures that prevent young people from being considered experts in regard to their own needs and priorities, while also building their leadership capacities. It is about empowering young people as valuable partners to address issues and make decisions that affect them personally or that they believe to be important. This means involving youth in planning and in making decisions that affect themselves and others. Good youth engagement happens in youth-adult partnerships that are structured so that both groups contribute, teach, and learn from each other.
This workshop was designed by youth, led by youth voices and offers you the opportunity to ask a panel of youth leaders how to engage youth in the social impact sector.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Aditi Basdeo is an ambitious and goal-driven young leader. She is the founder of Champions of Change Canada: a youth-led organization that works to promote a future where gender equality is empowered. Aditi believes that by creating an environment where women feel empowered in their communities, a stronger society is possible for the young girls who will change the world of tomorrow. Outside of her advocacy, Aditi created the Mucy app to assist children in developing stronger mental awareness through the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She is current a student of both engineering and business at Western University.
